I wanted to do this challenge (run by Country Walking magazine) last year but as we all know, life took an unexpected turn when we all went into lockdown in March 2020. As I was unable to do my usual work, with gyms and community halls being closed, I was offered temporary alternative employment calling vulnerable patients in Greenwich as part of the helpline team, for which I was very grateful. Then before I knew it we were several months into 2020 and I still hadn't started logging my daily walks.
So, this year I have committed myself to do the challenge and by documenting my journey, I can share the ups and downs. I'm thinking it shouldn't be that difficult as I do walk regularly and run Nordic Walking classes (when we are not in lockdown!). However, I am fully aware of how difficult it can be to motivate oneself, especially when it's cold and miserable outside. Also, we all have commitments and life does have a way of throwing obstacles in our path just when we think we are on track. Missing the odd day is not going to make much difference but it would be easy to let one day become two, and so on.
January has been a bit up and down and I have not managed to walk every day. The average daily target is 2.74 miles to reach 1000 miles by the year end so it's not too difficult to make up lost miles on longer walks., I hope!
Yesterday was one of those 'making up lost steps' days. Wanting to try as many different walks as I can, I decided to walk the Thames Path from Thamesmead to the Greenwich Peninsular and back and that clocked up 9 miles. So far I'm on track! #daniellefuller19 #nordicwalkinguk
